Cheques and imbalance

Get ready for attack ads from the federal Liberals – and they’re gonna be doozies.

“Welcome to the Cheque Republic,” they’ll be trumpeting as they go right after the Harper government for using federal funds and ceremonial cheque presentations to promote the Conservative party.

When the Tory logo appeared on an oversized cheque for $300,000 presented by MP Gerald Keddy to a representative of the community centre getting an upgrade in his riding, Liberals went ballistic.

Harper and his gang promised they would never do it again. But Thursday’s Toronto Star reports on a new twist to the Tory cheque scandal, specifically that Liberal ridings are getting 38 per cent less dough than Tory ridings from the feds’ stimulus fund.

The last Liberal attack ads were pathetic – remember Michael Ignatieff in a fake forest? – but I’m guessing that the new strategy will resonate with Canadians furious at the way the the Harper Government is trying to buy off voters.

Campaign buttons with the Welcome to the Cheque Republic message are also sure to be on their way. Cheque ’em out.[rssbreak]
