Clear and carfree

Toronto’s Carfree Day event at Dundas Square turned into more of a Transit City boasting pitch than a way to raise awareness around pollution caused by gas guzzlers.

Along with 1,500 other cities across the globe, Toronto celebrated the day by shutting down its roads from Dundas to Shuter along Yonge for a few hours. Car Free Day is a chance for pedestrians to take back the streets and although Mayor David Miller, who spoke at the event, says “we’re working very hard to make this city a better place to walk,” how this is exactly happening wasn’t discussed. Cities like NYC have permanent carfree zones, why can’t Toronto?
