WHAT IS THE LIMIN' EVENT? It's a fundraiser for the Toronto Women's Bookstore. We had a break-in on Friday and the safe was stolen, so this actually comes at a good time. Luckily, there was no vandalism. But besides that, it's just a fun party with great DJs, dancing and a bit of a Caribana feel.
WHAT MAKES A GREAT PARTY? At a great party, people feel like part of the show. You need people who come not just to be entertained but also to entertain themselves and others. And I'll be there doing a sexy burlesque number.
WHAT'S IN A SEXY BURLESQUE NUMBER BY COCO LA CREME? Lots of glitter, rhinestones and shiny, shiny shakin'.
WHY DO YOU THINK BURLESQUE IS EXPERIENCING A RESURGENCE? It's popular again now because people always want to see booty, and see it in a friendly space. But burlesque adds other elements people want to see different kinds of bodies, different expressions of beauty and what's sexy. And it's not just about the body, but also about the creativity of the performer.
HOW WILL YOU BE CELEBRATING CARIBANA? Well, Limin' will be my main nighttime party, but I'll definitely be going to the Caribana parade. As a burlesque dancer, I love the Caribana costumes. I've been fascinated by them since I was a little kid, all the colours and glitter, and especially the ones that look like floats, with wheels on them. Everyone looks like a peacock.
