Ontario reported 699 new COVID-19 cases and and nine more deaths on June 1.

Today’s count is the lowest single-day increase since October 18 when 658 cases were confirmed.

There were 916 new cases on Monday, 1,033 on Sunday, 1,057 on Saturday, 1,273 on Friday and 1,135 on Thursday. The seven-day average for new cases has dropped to 1,030, down from 1,693 last Tuesday.

Labs in the province completed 20,262 tests since yesterday, making for a positivity rate of 3.6 per cent, which is down from 6.2 per cent a week ago.

“Locally, there are 207 new cases in Toronto, 144 in Peel, 52 in York Region and 50 in Durham,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter.

Another 1,568 cases have resolved in the past 24 hours. There are now 804 patients in Ontario hospitals – up from 731 on Monday – including 583 in intensive care units, a drop from 617 yesterday. Of the ICU patients, 387 are on ventilators, according to Ministry of Health data.

As of 8 pm last night, Ontario had administered 9,202,220 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 120,195 in the past day. To date, 65.4 per cent of Ontarians age 12 and up have received a first dose and 5.7 per cent are fully immunized.

On Tuesday morning, Toronto Public Health announced they expect more than 70 per cent of adults aged 18 years or older in the city – or 1,778,644 people – will have received a first dose by the end of today.
