Crazy rolling (Loco Roco review)

LocoRoco (PSP) Rating: NNN

Puzzle Action

In a nutshell, the titular yellow blobs must save their planet from the evil Moja. However, it was the unique and innovative game play of LocoRoco that propelled it into the hearts of North American PSP owners.

The control scheme is reminiscent of wooden labyrinths of youth. You don’t directly control the LocoRoco – instead, you tile the entire stage, causing the LocoRoco to get from start to finish, collecting berries to make your gelatinous self grow along the way. There are simple enemies and environmental challenges impeding your path, creating some interesting puzzles to putter though. Goals and hidden areas will add replay value to this somewhat short game.

With impressive visuals and stages, rife with charm and catchy music, the elements are all there to make a great game, but repetitive gameplay makes it only a good game. While easy to pick up and easy to play is both a benefit and a detractor. This title is great for short spur of the moment time killing, it’s less so for longer hauls. Still, LocoRoco is a worth while title to pick up.
