Organic farming can feed an entire country, concludes a recent report by the Oakland, California-based Institute for Food and Development Policy/Food First.

Cuba has taken thousands of poorly utilized areas, mainly around Havana, and turned them into intensive vegetable gardens without use of synthetic fertilizers and toxic pesticides, says the report Cultivating Havana: Urban Agriculture And Food Security In The Years Of Crisis.

Organic urban agriculture produces 65 per cent of Cuba’s rice and 46 per cent of fresh vegetables.
