Day 2: Fall 2007 Toronto Fashion Week Report

Day 2: Dandy duds and photo flashes

I took off my journalist’s cap for the first official show of L’Oreal Fashion Week and played producer and stylist for the launch of designer Philip Sparks’ dapper menswear line. Canadian fashion central, Boutique Le Trou (get used to reading those three little words. No one supports local talent like shop owner Marlene Shiff and she’s got her fingers in a lot of Fashion Week pies this season) cleared out its racks to make room for an intimate runway space fit to show off Sparks’ Stratford Festival and National Ballet of Canada costume department-trained attention to bespoke-style detail.

The twelve outfits Sparks showed included beautifully fit men’s suiting, a killer cable knit trench coat and a show stopping silver, metallic leather jacket look crowned with an oldey timey top hat.

After a dinner break, the fashion crowd headed to Cheval (606 King West) where Boutique Le Trou held a fashion shoot-themed warm up party for L’Oreal Fashion Week which officially begins today. Check out this Thursday’s (March 15) MyStyle for our own photo spread from the bash.

Philip Sparks menswear available at: Boutique Le Trou, 940 Queen West, 416-516-7122 and Model Citizen, 913 Dundas West, 416-553-6632.

On today: The opening night Retail Piece presentation shows off fall looks from Marie Saint Pierre, Jason Matlo, Nada and Karamea followed by Montreal outerwear label Mackage.
