Responding to a series of early morning raids earlier this month targeting migrant workers in the Jane and Finch area, yesterday Jane and Finch Action Against Poverty (JFAAP) organized a demonstration, put up posters and distributed a guide, entitled “Know Your Rights.”
According to the group, Canada Border Services Agency with the support of Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Ministry of Transportation “racially profiled, forcefully ID’d and detained at least 21 people” on Thursday, Aug. 14. Several workers have already been deported to their countries of origin while others are being detained at the Toronto Immigration Holding Centre at 385 Rexdale Blvd.
