Dyeing for a Cure

If the Reddy For A Cure people have anything to say about it, Canada will have a lot more redheads walking around this weekend.

The nationwide project has been set up to encourage people to dye their hair flame red in tribute to Eva Markvoort, the Vancouver CF patient whose path to a double-lung transplant was chronicled in the 2009 documentary 65_RedRoses. Markvoort died earlier this year when her body ultimately rejected those lungs.

Philip Lyall, who co-directed the documentary, is helping to organize the Toronto chapter. He’ll be among the volunteers lining up this Thursday (May 27) at 3 pm at Mankind Grooming Studio, the better to be prepared for Sunday’s Great Strides Walk at the Metro Toronto Zoo.

“Philip is one of our regular clients,” says Noel Naguiat, who owns Mankind with stylist Jason Culala. “We’re contributing our services and our staff, doing anything we can to show our support.”

As of today, Reddy For A Cure’s Toronto chapter has raised $8,000 the Vancouver chapter has raised $17,000 in advance of its own Great Strides Walk. (Events are held across Canada.)

If you’d like to participate or contribute, Reddy For A Cure’s Facebook page has all the details. And if you want to drop by Mankind on Thursday afternoon, they can probably squeeze you in.[rssbreak]
