RU-486, the famed "abortion pill" may soon be coming to a doctor's office near you.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an approval letter to the Danco Group, which wants to manufacture RU-486, or Mifepristone.
Danco is still awaiting a final go-ahead, but U.S abortion rights advocates are already training doctors in the drug's use. Activists say it could be available sometime this year.
That could be good news for Canadian women, who don't have access to an abortion pill. "When the U.S. sneezes, Canada catches a cold," says Joy Thompson of Planned Parenthood.
Tara Madigan of Health Canada says she cannot divulge whether any company has applied to have the drug approved in Canada.
