Is that an art installation or were those wires on a pole always there? Toronto's dusk-to-sunrise celebration of cultural abundance always scrambles the consciousness like no other major event. The wonderland of music, sound, lighting, heroic temporary architecture, strange performances and participatory play that takes over the downtown every fall turns the city into an enchanted space where well-known landmarks change form and function in magical ways, and thoroughfares and laneways turn into galleries and theatres. The sight of thousands of locals roaming the streets hungry for art in the wee hours only reminds us of the city's latent civic togetherness and susceptibility to creativity.
