Ontario reported 981 new COVID-19 cases and 42 deaths on February 14.
Today’s count is a large drop over Saturday’s 1,300 new infections, but Toronto only reported 122 new cases, much less than the 433 cases reported the previous day.
The province said in its daily epidemiological report that case counts may fluctuate from Toronto Public Health due to quality data checks following the city’s migration to the Ontario COVID-19 data reporting system.
The province has reported a daily count of below 1,000 twice in the past month but on both occasions the result was due to data reporting issues.
“Locally, there are 209 new cases in Peel, 171 in York Region and 122 in Toronto,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter.
Ontario reported 1,076 cases on Friday, 945 on Thursday, 1,072 on Wednesday and 1,022 on Tuesday. The seven-day rolling average for new infections is now 1,094, down from 1,428 a week ago.
Medical labs completed 48,701 tests in the past day, making for a positivity rate of 2.6 per cent. That’s down from 2.8 per cent a week ago.
Of today’s 42 deaths, 17 were residents of long-term care homes.
Hospitalizations dropped from 786 to 705 in the past day. There are are 292 patients in intensive care, including 203 on ventilators.
As of 8 pm yesterday, Ontario had administered 467,626 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
