ROM Friday Night Live: The dos and don’ts on maximizing your night at the museum

Every Friday, drink, dance and dig through a museum’s incredible stash of artifacts, mummies and dinosaur bones at Friday Night Live at the ROM. This week (October 16), entertainment includes Diggy! the DJ, the always entertaining Oldies 990, Sanga Genesis and Cairo (see the full program here), plus tons of food and drink.

For the uninitiated, here are a few dos and don’ts to make your night at the museum even more fun:

  • Don’t wait to buy ROM bucks: You’ll need these to buy your delicious savory and sweet treats and drinks (there is no cash exchanged at the 12 food vendors or the bars on each level). And don’t worry about buying too many – they’ll be accepted throughout the fall season.
  • Do skip lines: Head upstairs and explore the second, third and fourth floors.  Hint: The Glass Room on the fourth floor has premium wines and the fastest access to ROM bucks.
  • Don’t skip the FNLROM guide: When the friendly staff offers it to you, really, take it. Not only does it have the names and performance times for DJs and live music, it tells you where to locate the food vendors each week.
  • Do get your nerd on: Yes, the first level dance floor has some fierce dance-offs, but take advantage of the museum’s gems, too.  Experts from the ROM have (priceless) items from the collections that you can handle while they answer questions. This season kicked off with amazing meteorites from Mars (recently handled by The Martian Matt Damon himself!).
  • Do stop by to say hi to NOW! Come pose for your Instagram-friendly NOW cover (tag it with #FNLROM) and pick up the latest issue of the magazine.

See you there!
