Ford Fest a shadow of its former glory

In a field adjacent to the Sears outlet store at Islington and Rexdale, Ford Fest bloomed like a weed adding colour to an otherwise dreary patch of grass.

Between the creaky, half-illuminated amusement rides and the lone opera singer inexplicably belting arias, Saturday’s edition of the Fords’ semi-annual self-tribute was a forlorn shadow of glory days past. Doug was popular, but he was not Rob. Rob was popular, but he was not quite himself. For the obvious reason that he was recently diagnosed with cancer, this Ford Fest was less celebratory and more obligatory, a “Get well soon!” teddy bear purchased from a hospital gift shop.

Ford Nation was less a spectre to be feared than a marionette kept dancing by an eager puppeteer.
