Jazz reed specialist Jane Bunnett has been recording for over 25 years, but she never gets old. When we talked to her 15 years ago, she'd become one of the world's foremost proponents of Cuban music - before Ry Cooder's 1997 Buena Vista Social Club (page 31 of the issue). She's still got her Cuban connection, widened it, actually - she was a leading force in the movement to assist Haiti's earthquake survivors in 2010. But it's her musical virtuosity that has made her such an enduring artist. She blew minds at the city's arts award lunch last year when she took the stage. She'll do the same when she plays Koerner Hall, Saturday (October 20) with Cuban piano titan Chucho Valdés . See listings, page 68.
