Some friends on Facebook just passed along a video that I'm going to share with you in a bit. It's a quick look at Glamping, the combination of glamorous and camping into one experience. This one is new to me but a quick Google search shows dozens of stories about this growing travel trend.
Glamping is aimed at people who want to say they've been camping but don't really want to deal with the reality of what camping means. They want the beautiful scenery without the bugs, the relaxing around the campfire without gathering wood or figuring out how to light it, the rustic feeling of a tent without leaving the comforts of home behind.
Not only do you stay in a massive floored tent with full size bed and all the amenities, you also get a butler who cooks in a modern kitchen, complete with stainless steel fridge and who generally caters to all your needs. You can go camping and the only physical movement you need to make is a snap of your fingers to get whatever you want.
I'm about to share the video with you, but first a quick quote to warm you up. A mother interviewed for the piece has this to say about her son who wanted to go camping, "This is a kid who's never flown in anything but first class and never stayed anywhere but at a Four Seasons."
