Happening NOW: March 19, 2010

What’s happening March 19, 2010:

Lots of bad news for the world’s beasts this morning – starting with the rejection of an Atlantic bluefin tuna ban at the U.N. But at least our government did its best to fight for the endangered species. Wait, no – Canada sided with Japan on the continued hunting of the animals.

Also losing out: polar bears. Another U.N. proposal to halt cross-border trade failed. As home to 65 per cent of the polar bear population, Canada is the only nation that allows bear exports.

Greenpeace has taken on KitKat, so Nestlé, for its purchasing of palm oil from firms operating out of rainforest clearing Indonesia. The big losers are orangutans. Here’s the mock ad (warning: guy eats ape fingers), which was removed from YouTube, but lives on happily on Vimeo.

And wrapping up the bad week for animals, Tiger Woods, obvs. The arrogant golfer is dealing with a whole whack of sexts, like “Slap your face. Treat you like a dirty little whore. Put my cock in your ass and then shove it down your throat”, that he sent to porn star Joslyn James. Rawr.

Well, you could include people who steal from hospital deathbed patients in the animal roundup. Police arrested one of a couple of guys they suspect were behind snatching jewellery from an unconscious woman at Toronto East General.[rssbreak]
