Happening NOW: September 28, 2010

What’s happening September 28, 2010:

Rocci Rossi spun a new angle on his attitude to bikes, yesterday. Where he initially fuelled the car-bike war by saying common sense dictated bikes and cars shouldn’t be on arterials together (we’re talking about Jarvis here), now he’s talking about separated lanes on Richmond, Harbord/Wellesley, St. George and Sherbourne. Well, he does still have his Jarvis hate-on.

George Smitherman was the first mayoral candidate to release a budget plan. Some of the fun stuff includes banking on $100 mil to come in from the province and a sale of Toronto’s Enwave stake.

The census crisis continues, with the Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities going ahead with a lawsuit against the feds over the eradication of the mandatory long-form.

A small ship is going ahead with a largely symbolic trip to deliver aid to Gaza. Israeli officials have said they’ll tow the boat if it says it’s trying to delivers its toys, books, musical instruments and prosthetic limbs to Gaza.

Some good news on the smoking front: the number of young Canadians sucking on cancer sticks is dropping.
