At least 5,000 people are dead after a catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria Tuesday morning.

With the death toll continuing to rise, many buildings destroyed and residents displaced, many countries have stepped in to provide aide.

Global Affairs Canada said they are closely monitoring the situation and they are in contact with its humanitarian partners.
