Idea the citys had in years

Gardiner teardown

When cyclists rode en critical masse onto the Gardiner last summer, they illustrated the power of symbolic gestures. We can go miles better and tear the mutha-effin’ monstrosity down. It’s only a first step, but a crucial one if we’re serious about building a waterfront for people, not cars. A revitalized waterfront is no place for a crumbling, elevated highway to condo hell. Workers of the world, unite. Time to take a jackhammer to the single largest psychological and physical barrier to our waterfront – and our city’s fragile ego. The evil offspring of the car-mad 50s, it has sat like an albatross at our feet for decades, laughing, grinning, daring us to tear it down. Around every new bend of the Gardiner we take down is a bright new world, environmentally friendly Transit City. Can you smell the fresh air, brother?
