The works of finalists in Spacing’s thinkToronto Urban Design Ideas competition were formally showcased in the City Hall rotunda earlier this month. Hopefully, planners occupying offices a few storeys up took note. Wow. T.O.’s next generation of city-builders have some way-out and wonderful ideas. Here’s a few.

1 Extending the material world into the natural world, a learning centre is proposed for that most accidental of natural wonders, Tommy Thompson Park (aka the Leslie Street Spit).
2 Harnessing the power of the sun to green the ceilings of our subway stations – so logical it sounds preposterous. We love it.

3 Call it the beaten PATH. It snakes aimlessly through the bowels of our city, but we can turn the subterranean world into a shining path by just letting a little light in.
