In photos: Thousands rally in Toronto in support of Ukraine

Thousands of Ukrainian Canadians and their allies filled the streets of downtown Toronto to protest Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, demonstrators in the thousands gathered at Yonge and Dundas Square and marched to Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto on Sunday.

The march was organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and called for the support of the Ukrainian people. UN High Commissioner Filippo Grandi says half a million people have fled Ukraine seeking refuge in neighbouring countries. Protestors weathered the wintry conditions, rallying with Ukraine flags and signs criticizing Putin for his aggression.

So far Canada and other governments have shown their support of Ukraine by sanctioning Russia and their products. The LCBO has removed all Russian vodka from their shelves. Rogers and Bell announced that they will be removing Russian state-controlled channel RT from their cable channel lineups. On top of sanctions, Canada is supporting the removal of Russia from the SWIFT banking system, which is used to wire transfer money between countries.
