Labour Day no parade for socialist candidate

Rating: NNNNN

POLITICS

Socialist Alternative city council candidate Wendy Forrest, a long shot to knock off lefty councillor Pam McConnell, just can’t get any respect from her union brothers and sisters.

The executive of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, which is endorsing McConnell, voted to prevent Forrest from marching as a council candidate in Monday’s Labour Day parade.

“Since we’ve endorsed another candidate, it’s not logical to have somebody else with signs in the parade,” says council president Linda Torney. Ouch.

Forrest’s campaign manager, Jason Baines, says the Council kicked his candidate out without even hearing her platform. SA
