Mel to flip again on raves in city spaces

Rating: NNNNN

No word yet whether Mayor Mel intends to seek royalties for the sample of his anti-rave rap on the i Dance CD.

But brace yourself for another hot-air marathon at council, because the rumour around City Hall is that MC Bad Boy may flip his position yet again and support raves in public buildings.

The cops’ new policy on pay duty — use of privately paid, off-duty police officers for large events — is expected to go to the police services board today (Thursday, July 27), and could be the first hint that DJ Jazzy Julian Fantino is on board as well. The policy will then move on to an emergency meeting of the community services committee on Friday (July 28) before going to council next week.

But ex-police services board diva Olivia Chow, still looking for her first dance hit, did get a motion passed at the committee calling for one pay duty officer for every 500 patrons at any big event like Caribana or the next Gay Pride rave.

Speculation is, if Mel does flip, Fantino will still call the shots on how many pay duties are required for every event.

Promoters, have your cheque books ready.
