Native song

a western native leader says MuchMusic is supporting the expansion of a Kamloops, BC, ski hill onto native lands by using the resort as a location for their “Snow Job” March Break telecast.

“Mr. (Moses) Znaimer should live up to his reputation and support the human rights of the Secwepemc people and cancel the MuchMusic incursion onto our territory.

Otherwise, he is proving that MuchMusic is just another greedy corporation intent on making a buck by trampling on the rights of indigenous peoples,” says chief Arthur Manuel, chair of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council.

Much has countered by pointing out that the five chiefs of the Shuswap nation don’t have a problem with Sun Peaks’ expansion, but with the provincial and federal government’s failure to resolve their land claims.

A MuchMusic spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

But Manuel claims that MuchMusic is exaggerating the chiefs’ position.

The 24-hour music video channel is taping the March Break special this week. It will air March 12 to 18. SA*
