The Canadian Tibet Committee (CTC) is calling on the PM to broker a meeting between the Chinese government and the exiled Dalai Lama when Chretien visits China in November.
Foreign affairs spokesperson Reynald Doiron says that Canada continues to "urge the Chinese authorities to undertake a dialogue with Tibetan religious leaders."
But urging the Chinese to open a dialogue with Tibet is a more complicated matter. "We don't recognize the Tibetan government in exile," says Doiron." The CTC holds a public forum on Tibet Thursday, September 28, at 7 pm at St. Thomas Church (383 Huron).
