The Olympics are good. The Olympics are good.
This mantra will be drilled into your head nonstop for the next year. Almost every news outlet has signed on to support Toronto's Olympic bid, generously providing free ads until the International Olympic Committee picks a host city in July 2001.
According to TO-Bid's Kelly Gianopoulos, the Star, the Globe, the Post and the Sun, along with the CBC, CTV and Global will provide free promotions.
The Star's director of communications, Brad Henderson, says his paper has committed to one full page a week, space permitting. He maintains this is no different than any other promotion and will not affect editorial coverage. "It's church and state," he says.
