No Garden Party

Rating: NNNNN

after 103 friday nights sleepingat Allan Gardens, activists are marking the second anniversary of the Allan Gardens Project, which has called on all governments to build housing.U of T alum Oriel Varga and PhD student Elan Ohayon have braved the most extreme temperatures and several attempted evictions by police.

The protest has caught the attention of local politicans and activists. But some at City Hall feel the group should move on to another site.

“After two years and not realizing the goal, I would have looked for an alternative,” says councillor Kyle Rae .

Members of the Project say their persistence in the face of many court appearances makes a very effective statement on the appropriateness of such dissent, and they expect a larger support crowd than usual on Friday.
