Get out your drums, noisemakers and lanterns and welcome the sun back at Kensington Market’s Festival Of Lights, the city’s primo grassroots winter happening, Monday (December 21). Join the giant puppets, fire-breathers and bands at 6 pm, when they lead off the parade at Oxford and Augusta and wind their way through the narrow streets, with surprises at every turn. Kardinal Offishall’s Christmas Charity Gala offers a really hot show for what remains, unfortunately, an urgent cause. Top T.O. talents including Jully Black, Saukrates and Michie Mee hit the stage to benefit the Breast Cancer Society of Canada on Wednesday (December 23), 9 pm, at This Is London (364 Richmond West). Russell Peters is also on hand to handle hosting duties for this essential benefit. $35, advance $25. ticketweb.ca.

Help sprinkle a little good cheer on those struggling to get three squares a day – hop down to the Cameron House for the People Still Gots Ta Eat concert Monday (December 21), 7 pm, benefiting the Daily Bread Food Bank. Musical inspiration comes from Bob Snider, Prairie Oyster’s Joan Besen, David Newland, Laura Hubert and more. Organizers also serve up down-home cookin’.
