NOW editors pick a trio of this week’s can’t-miss events

Support Palestine’s fishers

As Israel continues its illegal blockade in Gaza’s territorial waters, Palestinian fishers have been unable to operate. The Gaza Ark funder at Lula Lounge Sunday (April 21), 7 pm, gives them a voice and aims to strengthen their connections to indigenous people everywhere. Performers at the benefit include Doula, Eagle Woman Singerz and the Layaleena Dabkeh Dancers, and you can snap up Palestinian-made dresses and jewelry at a silent auction. $20. 1585 Dundas West. facebook.com/events/549373665094851.

Rally for reefer rights

Since marijuana’s recently been legalized – after a fashion – in Colorado and Washington state, Canada is looking a little bush-league. But here’s your chance to use the time and date legendary in pot circles to push the Conservatives for an end to prohibition and the persecution of stoners. The 420 Toronto Rally, Saturday (April 20), noon to 6 pm, features inspiration from the Toronto Hash Mob plus music from the Killin Time Band, comedy hosted by Mike Rita and more. Free. Yonge-Dundas Square. 420rally.ca.

Heart the Arctic

It’s happening in over 20 countries on Earth Day to help save the Arctic from ice-melting climate change. Head down to Trinity Bellwoods Park to be part of a giant heart-shaped banner expressing your love for the North that will be photographed from 13 metres in the air on an articulating boom lift by Greenpeace. Saturday (April 20), noon. Free. Queen and Shaw. greenpeace.org.
