Mass pedal for bike paths

So when exactly are we going to get those safe and comprehensive bike lanes that will make pedalling as easy as TTC-riding? Help hasten the day by joining Bells On Bloor, Danforth and Yonge, a festive mass street takeover pushing for more cycling respect on Saturday (May 11). Meet up at noon at High Park’s main gate at Bloor and High Park, in East Lynn Park at Danforth and East Lynn, or at 12:30 pm in Duplex Parkette southwest of Yonge and Chatsworth. The group ride-athon ends at the Cycle & Sole Queen’s Park rally to keep the pressure on. Free. bellsonbloor.org.

Joint action against pot laws

Prohibition just plain sucks: it makes criminals out of inhalers, is patently hypocritical and unfair, costs a bundle to police and denies Canadians a healing med. And instead of saner reefer policies like those coming out of Washington and Colorado, our feds are going all crackdown. The 15th annual Global Marijuana March seeks decriminalization and hits the street Saturday (May 11). Gather at high noon and march at 2 pm. Free. Queen’s Park North. globalmarijuanamarch.ca.

Keeping faith with T.O.’s past

Now, here’s a question that gets more urgent with every crane that appears on the horizon – Toronto’s Heritage Streetscapes: Can They Be Saved? Is it possible to rescue those beautiful buildings, the gifts of centuries and decades past? This conversation features architect Margaret Zeidler, president of Urbanspace Property Group, playwright Deanne Taylor, co-founder of VideoCabaret, and Councillor Adam Vaughan. It’s held in conjunction with Early Sunday Morning, a Contact Fest show of photos by David Kaufman, at Twist Gallery, 1100 Queen West. Saturday (May 11) at 2:30 pm. Free. 416-588-2222.
