GREEN HOPES IN THE SQUARE

Sometimes, despite the planetary mess we’re in, you just have to celebrate the vast array of eco options out there. The Live Green Toronto Festival takes over Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday (July 27) with a market featuring hundreds of enviro products for the home, the clothes closet and the body. Check out the Swap Zone for CDs, DVDs, books and vinyl, and take in free yoga and performances by Kardinal Offishall, Alex Cuba, Victoria Duffield, Treble Charger, Shawn Desman and Anjulie. 11 am to 9 pm. Free. toronto.ca.

GET WET FOR THE ARCTIC

There’s an oil rush in the Arctic, and the only way to save the pristine but threatened North – the icebergs, the water, the creatures – from the inevitable petroleum spillage is to prevent all drilling. Greenpeace Canada hosts a water-filled-balloon toss to highlight the spill threat. Get ready to be doused. Saturday (July 27) from 1 to 4 pm. Free. Christie Pits Park, southeast corner of Bloor and Christie. RSVP natalie.caine@greenpeace.org.

Wednesday (July 31) at 3 pm. Free. U of T’s University College, rm 044, 15 King’s College Circle. scienceforpeace.ca.
