SOUP’S ON

If you’ve got a garden of your own, you know you’re lucky. So think about growing something extra and sharing it with people less fortunate. The mission of the org Plant a Row/Grow a Row is to encourage and facilitate exactly that. On Sunday (September 29), Artscape Wychwood Barns hosts the Soupalicious funder for Plant a Row, where from noon to 4 pm chefs from the Big Carrot, Globe Bistro & Earth, One Love Vegetarian and others serve up sumptuous soups they’ve designed. $20, adv $12. 601 Christie. soupalicious.ca.

WHAT WE OWE AFGHANISTAN

Lest we forget, Canada still has a thousand soldiers in Afghanistan training the Afghan military to back a corrupt government. The Christian Peacemaker Teams, Pax Christi Toronto, Voice of Women for Peace and others pushing for reparations to rebuild the country’s shattered agricultural sector host Justice For Afghanistan, with speakers Kathy Kelly and Buddy Bell of Chicago-based Afghan Peace Volunteers. Friday (September 27), 7 pm. Free. Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil. facebook.com/justiceforafghanistantour.

CELEBRATING OUR PARKS

An inspired event brings together the city’s culinary and musical talent, à la Soupstock, to focus on the green corridor along the path of the buried Garrison Creek. Hosted by the David Suzuki Foundation, the Homegrown Park Crawl features a musical park crawl starting at Christie Pits and ending in Trinity Bellwoods. At each stop, vendors including Jamie Kennedy Kitchens, Pizzeria Libretto and County General offer up tasties, and groups like Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Choir!Choir!Choir! perform. Sunday (September 29), 11 am to 4 pm. Free. (Food tickets $5). davidsuzuki.org/parkcrawl.
