Just how much will the east end’s park life hurt former school board trustee Gail Nyberg in her bid to knock off deputy mayor Case Ootes?
The Toronto District School Board’s playground massacre affected nine sites in ward 29 (Broadview-Greenwood), either entirely or partially clearing out all equipment. But there are 10 public parks with playgrounds in the ‘hood, which could mitigate the board mess.
By the same token, ward 15 (Eglinton-Lawrence) had eight school playgrounds closed but still has 14 public parks.
Ootes tells NOW he’s hearing about it at the door. But Nyberg claims that after she explains the safety concerns, some people actually come around. She’s also been shifting the focus, using Ootes’s campaign material featuring Mayor Mel’s endorsement.
Armed with Ootes’s pamphlet, her opening is usually “Hi, I’m Gail Nyberg, and these are the two garbage guys.”
