Ontario hits another record high of COVID-19 cases

Ontario reported a record high of 1,388 new cases of COVID-19 on November 10, the highest the province has ever seen and the fifth day in a row of new cases over the 1,000 mark.

Ontario detected 1,242 COVID-19 cases on Monday, a previous record of 1,328 on Sunday, 1,132 on Saturday and 1,003 on Friday.

Toronto reported 520 new cases, a new daily COVID-19 record for the city.

Yesterday, at 483, Toronto saw its highest single-day increase. Peel reported 395 new cases, along with 100 in York Region, 72 in Halton and 50 in Niagara.

The province also surpassed the 10,000 mark in active cases, reaching 10,106 today. Hospitalizations saw a large jump from 367 yesterday to 422 today. Currently, there are 82 patients in intensive care, and 54 of those patients are on ventilators.

With 29,125 tests completed in the past 24 hours in the province, Ontario’s testing positivity rate has hit 4.8 per cent. The testing backlog is at 27,802.

The new seven-day rolling average has reached 1,154.

The province also reported 15 new deaths, 11 of which are among long-term care residents.

School-aged children ages four to 17 make up 149 of new cases reported today.

There have been 86,783 total cases of COVID-19 in Ontario to date, including 73,417 resolved – up 781 from the previous day. 3,260 people have died.
