Ontario reports 106 new cases of COVID-19

Ontario reported 106 new COVID-19 cases on August 15, the first time in a week that cases crossed the 100 mark.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said 27 of the province’s 34 public health units are reporting five or fewer cases and 18 are reporting no new cases.

The last time new cases increased above 100 in the province was on Monday. The province confirmed 92 new cases of the virus on Friday, 78 on Thursday (but Toronto’s data was not available that day) and 95 on Wednesday.

Toronto reported 16 new infections, Peel Region had 23, Chatham-Kent had 20 and Ottawa confirmed 12.

Medical labs in Ontario completed 30,436 test in the past 24 hours and another 33,852 cases are under investigation.

“Hospitalizations continue to decline with ICU admissions and vented patients remaining largely stable,” Elliott added.

There are 39 patients in hospital, including 17 in intensive care and 10 in intensive care on venilators.

One more person has died, bringing the provincial death toll to 2,789.

To date, there have been 40,565 COVID-19 cases in Ontario. Of those, 90.9 per cent – or 36,873 – are resolved.

On Friday, the city of Toronto warned patrons who visited downtown strip club monitor for symptoms after a staffer tested positive. Officials are in the process of contacting people who were at the Brass Rail on August 4-9.
