Ontario reports 998 new cases of COVID-19

Ontario reports 998 new cases of COVID-19 and 13 new deaths on November 5.

The province detected 987 cases on Wednesday, a record 1,050 cases on Tuesday and 948 on Monday.

Ontario’s seven-day rolling average has now reached 981.5, a nine per cent increase from this time last week when it stood at 899.

Among the province’s major hotspots, there are 350 new cases in Toronto, 269 in Peel and 71 in York Region.

Active cases have reached 8,358, and hospitalizations have increased by 14 to 381. There are 11 more patients in intensive care, and 48 patients on a ventilator.

There are four more long-term care homes with an active outbreak, a total of 89 across the province.

“There are 49 homes considered in outbreak with no resident cases in the home. There are 40 homes with resident cases of which 20 have fewer than 5 cases each,” Minister of Long-term Care Merrilee Fullerton wrote on Twitter.

Seven of the deaths reported today were among long-term care residents.

The province completed 35,754 tests in the past 24 hours, marking a 2.8 per cent positivity rate. There are still 41,787 tests under investigation.

There have been 80,690 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 69,137 resolved – up 948 from the day before.
