Ontario reports more than 1,400 new COVID-19 cases

Ontario reported 1,426 new cases of COVID-19 on November 11, another record high for single-day increases.

Peel Region reported the most new infections in the province with 468. Toronto saw a significant drop from Tuesday’s all-time high single-day high 520 to 384. York Region confirmed 180 new cases.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter there were 886 more resolved cases and over 36,700 tests completed. The positivity rate has dropped to 3.9 per cent from 4.8 per cent a day earlier.

The total number of confirmed active cases in Ontario is 10,631. The seven-day average for new cases is now at a new high of 1,216.

Another 15 people have died in the past 24 hours, pushing the provincial death toll up to 3,275.

Hospitalizations continue to rise. There are now 424 patients in hospital, including 88 in intensive care and 57 on ventilators.

The new numbers come as Toronto announced that indoor dining and fitness classes will stay closed for another month when the city moves into the red zone in Ontario’s colour-coded reopening framework on November 14.

Casinos, event spaces, movie theatres will remain shut, but gyms can reopen with a capacity of 10 people.

Peel also introduced additional restrictions after the province moved the region into the red zone over the weekend. Wedding receptions are banned and there are additional restrictions on restaurants and gyms.

Ontario confirmed 1,388 new infections on Tuesday, 1,242 on Monday, 1,328 on Sunday, 1,132 on Saturday and 1,003 on Friday.

To date, there have been 88,209 confirmed cases in the province. Of those, 74,303 are resolved.
