Ontario reported 1,132 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 more deaths on November 7.

The case growth is the highest single-day increase recorded in the province since the outbreak began and comes as the province loosens restrictions in York Region and Ottawa.

Ontario’s new colour-coded warning system took effect at midnight as the modified Stage 2 restrictions were expiring in some regions. The system uses colours green, yellow, orange and red to indicate caseload and hospital capacity levels in public health regions.

Peel Region moved into the red level and York Region and Ottawa moved in orange. Toronto is remaining in modified Stage 2 until at least November 14 at the request of the mayor.

On Saturday, the four hotspots continued to report the highest case growth in the province.

“Locally, there are 336 new cases in Toronto, 258 in Peel, 114 in York Region, 78 in Ottawa, 64 in Halton and 55 in Hamilton,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter. “There are 852 more resolved cases.”

The number of confirmed active cases stands at 8,667.

The province reported 1,003 new infections on Friday, 998 new cases on Thursday, 987 cases on Wednesday and 1,050 new cases on Tuesday – the previous recorded high.

Hospitalizations rose slightly to 384, including 88 people in intensive care and 52 people on ventilators.

Labs in the province completed 39,165 tests and another 44,572 tests remain under investigation. The positivity rate is 2.9 per cent.

To date, there have been 82,825 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario. Of those, 70,938 are resolved and 3,220 people that died.
