Hundreds gathered at a solidarity rally in Nathan Phillips Square following the Charlie Hebdo attacks of January 7 in Paris, France.

Mayor John Tory, Finance Minister Joe Oliver and French Deputy Consul of Toronto Dominique Faille made brief speeches and everyone paused for a minute of silence to commemorate the victims. Participants were invited to sign a book of condolences and later marched to Yonge-Dundas Square. Attendees were encouraged to bring pens to symbolize free speech, freedom of expression and freedom of the press.
