Playing online tonight

Aside from SG-1‘s recent series finale, I don’t think I’ve scheduled TV watching in the last two or three years. Gone are the days of my weekly Buffy/Angel night.

These days, in fact, I watch more internet than TV. So much so that I’ve been basing my next TV purchase on its ability to act as a computer monitor. This is to accommodate parties where we degenerate to sharing amusing links, YouTube clips, mp3’s, photos and videos – hovering over one chair in front of a small monitor. I am now pondering a comfortable enclave of sofas in my basement to gather around the warm glow of the tv screen.

Tonight, however, marks the first time I’ve thought to plan watching something online. If you need another feed for tonight’s Live Earth concerts, MSN/Sympatico will be streaming them from http://liveearth.sympatico.msn.ca

It’s a crazy lineup that includes Madonna, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Smashing Pumpkins, (the list clocks in at over 150+ artists) at over eight global venues, (details here), all in support of global warming awareness.

I couldn’t find mention on the sympatico site, but I hope that they have adopted many of the great things the Barenaked Ladies have implemented to offset the pollution and impact of their concerts. It’d be irony indeed if they’ve done nothing to diminish their own production of green house emissions cause by their event.
