POT flip-flop

Rating: NNNNN

the couple of times grit leader Dalton McGuinty smoked pot as a teen must have affected his memory. How else to explain his remarks on TVO last week that he doesn’t support the legalization of pot, for any reason. That’s not the position he took during the last provincial runoff, when he not only admitted to a few tokes in his misspent youth, but also endorsed decriminalizing bud. Don’t want to saddle our youth with a criminal record and all that.

McGuinty later went further in an interview with a gay tabloid in his Ottawa backyard. In it, he decried what a shame it is that gays suffering from AIDS aren’t getting dope relief from the feds. Must have been the heat of the campaign forcing him to take stands he doesn’t really believe in.

Press secretary Tracey Sobers says the leader wasn’t backtracking on bud in his TVO comments. She makes the distinction that he supports decriminalizing pot, not legalizing it.

When it’s pointed out that he’s also endorsed the use of pot as medicine in the past, Sobers says she’ll have to look into it and get back to NOW later. She never does. Shame.ENZO Di MATTE
