Paris Hilton appears to have had a brain transplant. The celebrity, previously known for nothing other than being famous, hilariously responded to a campaign ad from Republican presidential candidate John McCain with a campaign ad of her own.
In his ad, McCain, trying to capitalize on Barack Obama's newbie status as a major political force, made the claim that Barack Obama had about as much substance as a celebrity like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.
Who can blame the guy? First of all, he's not totally off the mark in wondering how a guy from out of nowhere could vault to presidential status. FYI - I am in no way a McCain supporter.
But more to the point, who thought Hilton was smart enough to retaliate to McCain use of her name in vain? Hilton's someone who hasn't shown a glimmer of smarts since she first burst on the scene alongside her pal Nicole Ritchie.
For years now, we've all wrung our hands, desperately worrying about the state of a culture that offers so much attention to women who have so little to offer. Anyone else who prayed that Hilton may be putting all this out there due to an appreciation for irony secretly suspected that she really wasn't smart enough to know how to take an ironic stance.
Wrong. Check out this video. I particularly appreciate Hilton's riff on energy policy - the content, the delivery, the wink of the eye. She does actually prove the point the any celeb who's a quick study can hammer together a credible platform plank.
I don't care if she hired a scriptwriter. The performance is dead-on. Who knew?
