Rover Will Not Roll Over

Not like this ever makes news like silly Tory Election promises or the impending digital music revolution brought on by Radiohead’s recent announcement (just wait…you’ll see), but just so you know, NASA’s Mars Exploration rover, Opportunity has actually been kickin’ ass up on the Red Planet, cruising around for shits and giggles, and, uh, science, for 44 months now, when the exploration mission was originally expected to only last 3 months.

Recently, the big news was that for the first time, the little rover that could was going to attempt an explorative mission of a large indent called the Victoria Crater, full of lots of ancient rock goodness, and possible clues to past environmental and atmospheric conditions.

And while this may not seem all that impressive right now, the rover has already survived severe – and terrifying to picture – Martian dust storms, which is more than we could say about any of us, and besides, this is just one more step for mankind towards the INEVITABLE.
