When Sarah Polley nabbed NOW’s cover spot, she was in not one but three movies at the 1997 Toronto International Film Festival (page 51 of the issue). Since then she’s blossomed into an accomplished filmmaker, as evidenced by last week’s Toronto Film Critics Awards gala, where her film Stories We Tell snagged the Allan King Documentary Award and the Rogers Award for best Canadian feature – which came with a cheque for $100,000. Turns out the astute actor/director is as big a fan of NOW as we are of her. At the gala, she made a point of telling a NOW critic how much she likes what we do – especially our cover story on branding. Creativity gifts and political smarts – cool combination.
