Semi-Watchable Weapons

Too precious

Every few years a band comes along trying to resurrect glam rock and invariably it never works. Robin Black apparently would rather fight bare-fisted in a UFC cage than put on the leather pants and pumps again. Anyone seen the Darkness lately?

New York’s Semi-Precious Weapons are the latest teased-hair crusaders for a genre that was considered shocking in 1974 – the year the Dolls released Too Much Too Soon, which the Weapons are shamelessly aping. But judging by their underwhelming show at the Silver Dollar Thursday night it would be surprising if Weapons lasted any longer than the fraying black tights singer Justin Tranter peacocks around the stage in. A Kate Moss endorsement can only take you so far.
