Despite today’s snowstorm, my daily bike commute was one of my more enjoyable rides this year.

The reason? Fewer cars on the streets. As unplowed streets and lower visibility compelled drivers to use alternative means of transport, the roads became clear for all-season bicycles to take over.
In this case, snow alleviates traffic, which alleviates stress levels for bikers and in turn a host of other problems caused by cars, the least of which being pollution.
If only drivers could show the same flexibility on smog alert days, air quality in the city could be transformed.
Word of warning, though: Watch out for hidden potholes and streetcar tracks, and allow more time for braking.
