According to a press release from Bioware, there is a new RPG headed to the little screens of millions of Nintendo DS's around the world. Yes that's right, Sega is working with Bioware to make a Sonic game for DS. I know, my head is still spinning from the various huge names in that sentence.
Bioware is the Edmonton based company behind the hugely successful games, Neverwinter Knights and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, as well as the upcoming 360 game, Mass Effect. They are easily top king in the RPG market as far as I'm concerned.
Then there is Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog. This has been a huge brand for Sega for years and on many different platforms, not counting last year's failure on the 360 of course. So departing their standard game play to make an RPG and one that runs on the DS is a big deal.
Really I'm not sure which pairing excites me more, Sonic and Bioware or Bioware and the DS. I suppose in the end this means that sometime in 2008 we should all have the best RPG ever made for the DS in our hands. One based on a well established franchise that should fit perfectly on the DS screens everywhere.
