Scrolling through Kotaku brought up an interesting kerfuffle.
Posting a rumour about a new Sony service for your PS3, they were then blackballed.
Now, for those of you who’ve never even heard of Kotaku, they’re part of the Gawker network who also own consumerist, lifehacker and gizmodo, amongst others. They’re not small, but I don’t think they’re what one considers mainstream per se. Sony and Kotaku made up in the end, but it was interesting to see the snowball build, (the story got posted on Digg), in such a short time. The way things were going, it could have made some national news for the next day, and I’d think that Sony’s “rumoured” Sony Home, would have been more than just out of the bag…
Some people were commenting that Kotaku picked the wrong battle to fight over, but I think they did just fine. I understand everyone was doing their job, but I think that many PR guys just don’t understand the viral aspects of online and how fast your reputation is made … and lost.
So, good or bad? What do you guys think of the situation?
