STACY LONDON: SHUT UP!

I hate to admit it, but What Not To Wear has changed my life. I know it’s hard to believe, but before I became a fan of the popular TLC wardrobe makeover TV show, I, too, could be seen in public wearing baggy sweatpants and extremely over-sized T-shirts. I foolishly thought that way-too-big clothes made my way-too-big body look smaller in comparison. I learned I was wrong.

But WNTW has influenced far more than attire. I often find myself channeling WNTW hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly whenever I’m faced with a style dilemma, no matter how trivial. Forget matching shoes and man-purse, do my plates make my macaroni pop? Does this stamp go with that envelope? And what colour flea collar coordinates with a calico cat, anyway?

Fellow followers of Stacy and Clinton will be heartened to learn that they get even more of Ms. London now that the opinionated NYC stylist to the stars has just launched her own Friday night talk show. Fashionably Late With Stacy London airs at 10 pm right after WNTW and repeats on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm.

Of course, this isn’t her first attempt at a solo career. A similar project, Shut Up! It’s Stacy London lasted all of one episode a few seasons back. In front of a mostly female audience and a few nonplussed husbands who’ve been obviously dragged along against their wills, Stacy offers make-up tips, handbag recommendations and on-the-spot makeovers alongside celebrity chit-chat with fashionistas like Rebecca formerly-Stamos Romijn. And shoes, shoes, shoes!

Pure escapist fluff, of course, but watching the first episode was worth it alone for the sight of Stacy making a major fashion faux pas when she toured a perfume factory wearing a hairnet. To quote La London herself: Shut up!
